It’s Finally here the moment us Alexz Johnson fans have been waiting for. Some of us fans have been waiting to see Alexz have her freedom of music creativity since her Acting on Instant Star. Alexz has also has fans from her So Weird days which is going on ten years this June. What I am going to do With this review is show why I like each song on the Voodoo album.
Trip Around the World– I like the song because it is a combination of New Orleans Jazz with Alexz’s singing talents. It is a good music video being Alexz’s first music video on her own and not through Instant Star. My Favorite line from the song is: “I love it, I love it, I love it when your free anyway you look at it it’s how it’s meant to be”. The song describes the fall and rise of New Orleans from Huricane Katrina to the rebulding process New Orleans is under. Alexz chose New Orleans for the backdrop of her song and music video because of the Music history with New Orleans. Alexz’s musical talents with her music and Jazz mix show as a good combination.
Look at Those Eyes– This song is telling people that no matter all your problems you aren’t alone. You are never alone when you have friends and no matter how long the way home or want to give up there are people for you to trust to help you. People bottle their problems inside and expirences they never talk to anyone about. Alexz is able to use this song to draw a connection to how people are in these trying times. I like this song as a way people can relate this song to their current lives.
Boogie Love– This song means to me being in a relationship with someone who seems perfect. I say who seems perfect in the way of maybe the person is not showing the love that the other person is in the relationship is. This song seems like an ultimatum that you either show me some of the love I give you or I can always be with someone else. Seems like it ties in to relationships these days that one person gives more then the other does. I was in this kind of relationship where I gave more then I got and felt like I was used so it means something to me.
Voodoo– The title track of this album. To me the line “Who does that Voodoo that you do” Seems like I have heard it somewhere before. The song is being attracked to a person you can’t just shake off your mind. Another line that I like is “You got me wearing my Stelettos” because it means to me you have me attracted to you and I want you to notice me. We all try to get this person who we have a crush on to notice us and go out of our normal way to try and make someone notice and be attracted to us as well.
Taker– The song is about a love triangle. Alexz sings about two people in Steven’s life. One is a Woman Steven sounds like he just broke up with but the woman tries to get back with him who admits she isn’t perfect but please take me back and I did not mean to hurt you. Another woman says Steven don’t listen to her she is a devil and she only wants to hurt you and I am better for you then her. This song relates to the guy who has been hurt in a relationship and is in the decision of do I take the ex back or go with someone else. This song seems like am I happy in my current relationship or should I look for someone else to be with.
Superstition– The song to me means that a person is afraid for someone who may be in some kind of trouble. The person Alexz is singing about in the mirror looking at her self doesn’t know what they should do. The person asks another to help the person in trouble. This song to me describes that at times there may be people we need to help but we don’t know what we should do. We asks others how we should help or ask if they can help our friends and family in trouble.
Mr. Jones– Mr. Jones what is the mystery behind you? Alexz sings about a person who is a mystery to all those around him. “What happened to the black suitcae in the middle of the staircase?” What are you doing Mr.Jones to make all the money you are making? Are you involved in some kind of shady work and why are you always buzy? My favorite line from the song has to be “I don’t wanna- sleep with a pirahna”. The song is about Mr.Jones being Mr.Mystery who everyone wants and doesn’t want at the same time. Sounds like Mr.Jones could be some type of of James Bond character involed in mysterious dealings maybe illegal? In other words Mr.Jones I want to know about you but am afraid about what I may find out.
A Little Bit– This song to me means that if you give me a little bit of love, I will show you much more then you give to me back. A little bit of love goes a long way. Some people just need to know that some one loves them enough to want them around and someone likes and loves them. We all feel like we want to be wanted by another person.
L.A Made Me– This songs describes those who are willing to give it all to be famous. They are some shady dealings in L.A. Tell me Tell me why are you in it for the Dough, tell me why are you selling out your soul? Some people rather give up themselves to be something they are not and in the process lose them self to being famous unlike alexz who is it in for the fans and the music more then the fame and money.
Hurricane Girl– The song seems like a woman who has a her string of bad relationships. The people in her life are telling her how she should live her life and who she should date. She want’s to tell people I wan’t to live my life how I want to and you don’t know what is best for me so leave me alone. Around the 2:27 mark of the song I say that Hurricane Girl has finally found that perfect person in her life who she is going to marry and telling all those naysayers from before I am happy so be happy for me or go away. This is the story of we can’t be told how to live our life and that we need to chose who is best for us then who everyone wants us to be with.
Gonna Get It– The song is about not giving up and fight for what you believe in. Alexz sings the lyric that I will never let my self fall in and oh no, wont let it go or let it take my soul. Do what you think you need to and not let others tell what you should do.
