A former Disney star is ramping up her music career with a release of single and music video from her upcoming album of the same title called “Skipping Stones”. Demi Lovato has even praised Alexz on her musical talent saying Alexz was her inspiration for making music. Demi also praised Alexz on the recently released music video on Youtube on Twitter saying it was “Sooo Gooood!!” Below is the music video for Skipping Stone for you guys to check out.

Canadian singer, song writer, and actress Alexz Johnson is gearing up to release her forthcoming EP titled “Skipping Stone”. The 5 track EP is set to drop January 2012 (TBA), with the music video for the single, same title as the EP, was released to YouTube on Saturday December 10, 2011 on www.youtube.com/itsalexzjohnson Check out the official album cover below for the EP.

Alexz Johnson is a relative unknown to many people in the music industry, but slowly and surely she’s gaining people’s attention. Having a 4 year run on “Instant Star” as Jude Harrison, Alexz was able to build a loyal fan base as well as garner attention to major record label deals from both Capitol and Epic Records in 2005 and 2008. Due to internal problems and heads of labels being switched, Johnson’s music never saw the light of day. She did however manage to make friends in the industry with successful songwriters and producers. Taking the hits from Epic and Capitol, Johnson lost 5 years worth of material that her brother Brendan and she spent time writing.

Determined not to give up, Johnson signed an indie deal with inDisover Orange Lounge Recordings in Canada, releasing her debut album “Voodoo”. The album consisted of 10 original tracks written and produced by herself and her brother. Johnson considers it to be the little “indie record that could”, having the album garner attention from Nelly Furtado and her husband Demacio “Demo” Castellon remixing it with The Demolition Crew. This led to the 2011 release of “Reloaded” a compilation of remixes of songs from the “Voodoo” album.

Today, Johnson is living in New York and doing everything on her own to get her music out there. She is releasing her new EP “Skipping Stone” in 2012 and getting a helping hand from some talented people in the industry. Greg Wells (Katy Perry, Adele, One Republic) mixed the single as well as James Lewis (Arctic Monkeys, Duffy, Cee-Lo Green) contributing to a few tracks as well. Johnson is looking to spread her music out there and wants to tour all over the US. She is offering her new single “Skipping Stone” for free on her website www.alexzjohnson.com. The song is one that comes from the soul, consisting of Johnson’s powerhouse vocals that will garner your attention. Dealing with love, heartbreak, and strength, Skipping Stone is a track everyone can relate to.
