Hit It Off Media Interview
Alexz was recently interviewed by Hit It Off Media. She talks about touring, her family, and man other things.
We caught up with Alexz Johnson to talk about her music!
Could you introduce yourself?
I’m Alexz Johnson. A singer-songwriter-sometimes-actress from Vancouver B.C, currently living in Brooklyn, NY.How would you describe your music style?
Soul/Pop/Folk.. I think?Tell us a little about yourself.
Music and family is my life. I can’t whistle. You grew up with 9 siblings and began writing songs with one of your brothers. What was that like, and did it teach you anything?
Being born in the middle of ten gave me good people skills and a disturbing sense of humour, lol. Writing with my brother Brendan was a huge part of my musical growth growing up. We would jam all the time and somehow kept it up to this day. He and I wrote majority of the tracks on the new Heart EP and upcoming album. You have had an exciting acting career! What’s been your favorite role to play so far?
Probably Jude Harrison on Instant Star. Being able to write music for the show and perform the songs was pretty rad.Do you expect to keep acting?
I do. I’m focusing more on music right now as I feel acting has put it more on the back burner in the past.. It’s sometimes hard juggling both, but I do love acting.Who would you say was most influential in getting you started in the music industry, and who kept you going through any struggles?
My Mom and my brother Bren. You’ve faced some obstacles with releasing your music in the past due to record label issues. However, you conquered them by releasing your music with backing through Kickstarter. How was that different from the recording you’re doing now?
More control and a ton more work… but, gratifying. It’s scary not knowing if a label is going to release your material.. and devastating when something on the business end goes sideways that affects your creative work.
Your website says you are recording a full length album. When can fans expect that to be released?
Soon!!Do you have a favorite song on the album yet?
I do… two! American Dreamer & Nothin’ On Me are my favourite tracks off of the Heart EP…What is your favorite part about recording in the studio?
It’s always fun recording the songs I’ve written and created.. You get a sense of where they could go. They start coming alive. It’s a special time. You’re also heading out on tour. Are you excited for the tour, and what can fans expect to see during your concerts?
I’m opening for Ron Pope & Wakey!Wakey!. This tour is going to be pretty stripped down, acoustic. I’m not performing with my band so I’m looking forward to connecting this way.
Is there anything you’d like to add?
I hope to see you on tour in the UK! Thank you for your support if you’ve pledged towards the new album!
