You’re in for a sweet treat! WhoSay has the exclusive first listen to Alexz Johnson’s sultry new album, “Let ‘Em Eat Cake.”

The Brooklyn-based singer started her career as a successful young star, appearing in the Disney Channel series “So Weird,” on the big screen in “Final Destination,” and on the Canadian TV show “Instant Star.” Johnson also had early success in her music career, signing record deals with Sony and EPIC, and drawing comparisons to Celine Dion at the age of 11.

Now an independent artist, Johnson’s soulful and folky indie-pop sound has caught the attention of The Village Voice, Billboard (she’s been ranked on Billboard Music’s “Uncharted” to-watch list), MTV Buzzworthy, and Nylon, not to mention pop music’s top women, from Nelly Furtado to Demi Lovato.

After two successful, fan-funded projects—the “Skipping Stone EP” and “Heart EP”— and her 2010 debut album, “Voodoo,” Johnson is excited to find her voice with her sophomore album. “‘Let ‘Em Eat Cake’ is a few things to me,” she said. “It’s my inner thoughts towards an empty industry. Perhaps it’s a personal experience for those who can relate to it… standing up for yourself and remaining who you are regardless of the heartache. Overcoming. There’s love and loss, there’s hope, and there’s a 27-year-old woman finding her own voice. I will always be finding my voice.”

Johnson will join Jared & the Mill on a fall tour kicking off in Boston on October 16, so be sure to get your tickets. In the meantime, have an exclusive listen to Johnson’s “Let ‘Em Eat Cake” below!
